WARNING: THE CPU FAN SPEED IS INCORRECT! THE SYSTEM WILL BE SHUTDOWNED IN 2 SECONDS!

And that's the new CPU fan.

A few days back, I ssh'd in to my Linux box at home to find that it was running incredibly slowly. Then I got a call from my girlfriend to say that it was making this weird siren noise. Ouch...

It turns out that the CPU fan was so clogged with dust that it had slowed to a crawl, and the machine had started heating up. Luckily, the motherboard has some sort of over-temperature protection, and the warning siren had come on, but hadn't quite hit the shutdown threshold yet.

New fan installed now, and it's going all right. It gives me the above warning when I start up, but the fan is running fine. Hmm...
