TB lets people 'ping' your server and say that they have written something that is related to a particular post on your blog. Your server takes a summary of their blog comment and posts it along with the comments on your post.

It has also been used to generate multi-author weblogs:

• [BlogPopuli? http://www.blogroots.com/blogpopuli/] is part of the BlogRoots? project (the website to go with the book 'WeBlog?').
• [KMpings http://www.highcontext.com/kmpings/] tracks knowledge-management conversation.

You can do it without MovableType? if you like, as long as you can run Perl on your server:
