Phillip Pearson - web + electronics notes

tech notes and web hackery from a new zealander who was vaguely useful on the web back in 2002 (see: python community server, the blogging ecosystem, the new zealand coffee review, the internet topic exchange).

MR1200 - like an SL1200, but for MP3s

Excellent - a simple, functional DJ-style MP3 player. Not hardware, unfortunately, but unlike the other apps I've seen, it doesn't try to do the world, just what a turntable would do.

Very cool feature: vinyl groove simulation, so you can see major track features like you can on a record. This is big; being able to see the quiet bits on a record is really helpful.

Pre-installed Windows licenses

Dave: If Windows was pre-installed on your PC, you hold an OEM Windows license, and should have a sticker somewhere on the PC case with your product ID. If you can get your hands on a copy of the OEM CD, you can legally reinstall as long as you have the sticker, AFAIK.

Last time I looked, you could get the OEM CDs for about $10, but you might need to have an account with a distributor. Perhaps your local PC store can help...?
